Best Paper Awards at BME Research Retreat

July 7, 2010

2009/2010 - On May 10-12, a group of 80 PhD students and faculty attended the third BME Research Retreat at the Duke Marine Lab in Beaufort, NC. During the two-day event, Dr. George Truskey presented an informative report on the state of the department and new faculty members Dr. Charlie Gersbach and Dr. Gabriel Lopez presented talks on their expertise in the areas of genome editing and biohybrid materials, respectively. Ten senior PhD students presented research talks on a variety of BME topics. PhD students Sarah MacEwan, Alex Kent, Will Garrigues, and Luke McSpadden won Best Poster Awards during the two-day poster sessions. There was also time for some social interaction at a gathering hosted by Dr. Olaf von Ramm at his waterfront beach house. The event provided an excellent opportunity to establish both professional and personal connections and we look forward to holding similar retreats in the future.
