Biomedical Master of Engineering

MEng in Biomedical Engineering

MEng students will complete the Core Industry Preparatory Courses and Internship/Project, departmental requirements, and will choose technical electives in one of the following areas of concentration:

  • Biomaterials
  • Bioengineering and Tissue Engineering
  • Biomechanics
  • Cardiac and Neuroengineering
  • Imaging and Biophotonics
  • Instrumentation

MEng in Photonics and Optical Sciences

MEng students will complete the Core Industry Preparatory Courses  and Internship/Project, three technical electives—two of which will be selected from similar areas of concentration—and departmental requirements including:

  • An advanced mathematics course
  • Two optics/photonics courses
  • One technical optics/photonics course from the BME department and one from the ECE department

Fellowships for MEng Students

In February 2017, the Duke Department of Biomedical Engineering announced a new fellowship program to support the research of Master of Science (MS) and Master of Engineering (MEng) students in Biomedical Engineering.

The fellowships provide $200 to $1,000 per semester for MS and MEng students who are engaged in or planning to engage in at least a semester-long independent study research project in the laboratory of a BME primary or secondary faculty member.
